Professor Pedro Sauer Seminar – February 2012

The long weekend of 17^th-19^th February 2012 saw me have the tremendous opportunity to train with a true master of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Pedro Sauer, on his first ever trip to the United Kingdom.

Travelling from his own full time Martial Arts Academy in Sterling, Virginia, USA to Laurence Sandum’s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford, Professor Sauer gave a series of seminars and semi-private sessions covering the finer points of BJJ.

Professor Sauer brought with him experienced Black Belts Allan Manganello of Loiusville Martial Arts and Allen Hopkins of Team Hopkins Jiu Jitsu.

The seminars were well attended by people from all over the country, as well as one gentleman from Austria.

Throughout the sessions, Professor Sauer spent time explaining and demonstrating the self-defence root of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the correct use of leverage and strategy to ensure your personal safety in a dangerous situation. As well as how this translates to sport.

I luckily joined Professor Sauer and his assistants for evening meals along with Guro Laurence Sandum and Peter Squire over the weekend; giving me an invaluable chance to socialise with some of the world’s best!

I would like to thank Professor Sauer, Allan Manganello and Allen Hopkins for taking the time out of the busy schedules to visit us here in the United Kingdom to deliver this outstanding weekend of material. From what I experienced, I feel that all attendees came away with new insight into their own training.
