Japanese Jiu Jitsu Seminar – January 2012
A busy 2012 started with head of IBF Jiu Jitsu Tom Starling coming to deliver a syllabus course on Japanese Jiu Jitsu at Laurence Sandum’s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford, on the 7th January.
Sensei Starling started at the very beginning of his syllabus and methodically worked through as many of the entries, locks, holds, throw and katas that time permitted.
During the seminar, it was clear that there was plenty of crossover of techniques and principles between Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the Filipino Martial Arts (Kali), and Jun Fan Gung Fu.
After the seminar, a group from the academy, including myself, stayed on to test for belt rank; which I am happy to say we all passed.
As usual for all grappling arts my ‘uke’ for the day was Peter Squire; I would like to thank him once again for his help!
Finally, I would like to thank Guro Laurence Sandum for continuing to organise this and other world-class instruction so close to home, here in Essex.
