Rounding out a busy month, the end of February saw me get to train under Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Dave Birkett.

As part of his regular seminars at Laurence Sandum‘s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford, Dave first taught standing self defence techniques, before moving to the floor for a master class on how to secure the Americana from the mount.

The teaching method Dave used was similar to the priciple of sombrada from the Filipino Martial Arts; in that, each move came with a counter, that could itself be countered, and so on.

Thanks to Dave for delivering such a insightful session; I look forward to training with him again really soon.
