Wooden Dummy Seminar – August 2011
Saturday 13th August saw Sifu David Farmer deliver another wooden dummy seminar at Laurence Sandum‘s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford, Essex.
Correct use of the wooden dummy is part of the UK MASDA Jun Fan Gung Fu curriculum and the seminar gave attendees the opportunity to hone their existing knowledge in preparation for their upcoming gradings.
The session kicked off with seminar participants warming up, going through the material that they already knew.
Sifu David then, as per his usual diligent manner, started at the very beginning with the first Jun Fang Gung Fu set, discussing applications for each section before moving on to later sets, including the Jeet Kune Do (JKD) dummy sets.
In the last hour of the seminar, the group was split in to two and I was given students to work with and further refine their required sets, whilst Sifu David went further on through the series with the other participants.
The seminar was received well by all that attended, with everyone walking away with some extra knowledge, whether that be the order of things, smoothness of movement, angles and/or footwork.
A big thank you to Sifu David giving another superb seminar and to Laurence Sandum for organising the day.
