Sombo Seminar – April 2012
Saturday 14th April 2012 saw the return of IBF Instructors John Clarke and Collin Carrott to Laurence Sandum‘s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford, Essex, to give another of the high energy and information-rich Sombo seminars.
Following on from previous material they have presented, John and Collin took the opportunity to focus on working throws from a multitude of different grips, in an effort for us to become more comfortable regardless of which grip we may find ourselves in.
For the last hour of the session, the emphasis switched to an area that Sombo is well known for; leg locks. A revered exponent of leg locks, Collin Carrott showed us a number of novel ways of locking an opponent’s leg; some from a ground and some from a standing position.
At the end of the seminar I was greatly honoured to be awarded my brown belt in Sombo; setting a goal of achieving my black belt sometime in 2013.
I would like to extend my thanks to John Clarke and Collin Carrott for travelling from Sittingbourne to Chelmsford to give the seminar, and I look forward to them returning next month for an afternoon focusing on Judo.
Finally, I would like to thank Guro Laurence Sandum for striving to bring the top martial artists in their fields, on such a regular basis, to Chelmsford.
